Introduction and Foreword

The diet is divided into three macro nutrients and various micro nutrients. Water is essential in every form of keeping and cannot be replaced by nutrient solutions. The three macro nutrients are➥ carbohydrates➥ protein➥ fats In hobby keeping of ants, fats are a macro nutrient that is often overlooked. It is not unusual and generally not harmful if ants are offered a varied and as diverse as possible food for a corresponding colony size. This article is mainly about the macro nutrients protein and carbohydrates. There will also be a summary of common feeding methods. Leaf-cutter ants and granivores are presented separately and an overview of feeding is included. This should give regular ant keepers a wide range of options and conceivable keeping solutions. Quick access for granivores ("grain ants") is available here.Quick access for leaf-cutter ants is available here. The following overview is divided into two categories.
